Another "Blocks" on the market.

That is, new modular devices from Elation.

We are very fond of modular devices that give the opportunity to stimulate creativity. Elation has just added such a device to its collection. The manufacturer, known mainly for its advanced moving and studio fixtures, recently released the SŌL I Blinder. This is the first device in this manufacturer's stable that, with the help of connectors, offers the possibility to create matrices in various shapes.

The luminaire itself is equipped with a 250W LED light source with RGBLAW full-spectrum-color mixing mode. Its fixed-focus optics provide a 46° beam emission (85° field of illumination). The declared CRI is 93+, so enough even for camera work.

General information

The whole thing is enclosed in a compact case, with dimensions of 185x114x114mm and a weight of 2.9kg. Also it is a very compact module. Of course, as it is Elation, the waterproof class certified at IP65. It should also be mentioned that the whole thing is 100% passively cooled, without any fans.

However, it is not the single device itself that is the most interesting in all this, because from such an ordinary blinder - from the looks of it, I would even say par... However, if we look at the device as a pixel of some kind of majority, we can see a multitude of facilities that are supposed to allow us to easily build shapes. It can be used as a single point, a pixel for a larger whole or a 2 and 4 eye classic blinders.

Creating matrices

We can find an accessory called an interconnector. Each fixture is equipped with tabs around the housing. Thanks to them, with the use of the interconnector, we can connect luminaires together in completely arbitrary shapes.

For simpler setup, we also get an "Array Mode" addressing system to help us set the address across multiple devices in our array. The implemented white color macro in the DMX attributes will help in using the device as a simple blinders.

Additional accessories

A whole range of optional accessories is available for the device, we can find there handles, blinder frame for 2 meshes, clipping frame, fresnel lens, or Frost filter. Also, the number of possibilities for assembling our new blocks is really incredibly large.

Photo and video fans will certainly be pleased with the availability of a Bowens adapter. With it, you will be able to mount your favorite fixtures or softboxes to the device. But it also gives additional scenographic possibilities for filmmakers and designers.

You can find more information, of course, on the manufacturer's and ditributor ' s website (I need to do something about that formula...).
