Who among us is not familiar with the iconic fixture that is the Martin MAC Aura, some love it, others hate it, it has its pros and cons, but it was undoubtedly a hit in the market of stage equipment, because the compactness and price in relation to power and quality really impressed.
Last year, unfortunately, the release of a refreshed and improved version of this iconic device was not enough, and it was not limited to putting in better and more powerful modules, newer electronics and improving the design as was done in the transition from the classic version to the XB, but this time we got a really fresh and great-looking device, which, in addition, thanks to its high IP54 protection class, is also suitable for outdoor use. I deliberately omit the PXL version in this comparison - because in my opinion it has lost a bit of its extreme compactness, which is for me the main determinant when it comes to the "aura" series.
Filament effect in addition to the classic aura.
What strikes you at first glance is the amazing "filament" effect inside the device as an addition to the classic aura, it is really beautiful. We get the ability to emulate color through 12 sections of RGB channels, which gives quite a lot of effect possibilities. To control the device, we are provided with 4 DMX modes - modes 20, 36, 57, and a full "Ludicrous Mode" which puts in our hands 93 channels for full control of the device. It's worth mentioning that we don't have to fire up the 93-channel mode for filament effects, because in smaller "mods" we get 200 macro effects per said section.
What differs from its predecessor is certainly the light source - XIP relies on 7 60W modules, instead of 19x15W (or 19x 40W for the PXL version), which, in my opinion, looks much more aesthetically pleasing. The device has a slightly altered zoom range, which is probably due to the use of larger lenses by reducing the number of LED modules, but it's still satisfactory, as the stated range is 6.3˚-50.4˚.

Looking at the device from the outside I think Martin has made an effort this time too, it looks very modern and solid. I'm also pleased that the manufacturer has retained the developed form of Aura, that is, a compact, for any pocket, for any place, and I can't hide the fact that after the release of the PXL version I had concerns about whether Martin would want to make the Aura series a classic "big" washa.

I have not yet had the opportunity to test this device, but looking at the parameters, capabilities and appearance with confidence in the Martin brand, I take blindly for small clubs, small spaces, for hotel/banquet events and anywhere where the capabilities do not allow the use of large standard fixtures, but also where you have to carry far and far....
