Chauvet Maverick Silens 1X Profile

A device ideal for theaters?

Chauvet Professional has unveiled the latest fanless moving head in its Silens series, named 1X Profile and 2X Profile (here we will focus on the former, the smaller one). The mere fact that the device has been lumped into the Silens series indicates a fanless design, which is geared toward working in noise-sensitive areas.

Basic information

The Chauvet Silens 1X Profile is a fanless moving head profile device with a 420W LED (main CW LED) and an additional 13W RGB LED - and here it should be noted that this is quite an interesting solution. As a rule, the smaller LED for the red shift effect is amber - and it is not in RGB mixing mode.

It has a color rendering index (CRI) of 97.1, providing exceptional color accuracy, crucial in professional applications.

The device offers 16-bit dimming with selectable red shift, so we have control over the dimmer from the lowest values. It features a CMY + CTO color mixing system, a rotating gobos wheel with 7 patterns (glass, interchangeable, with indexing), an animation wheel effect, a 5-faset prism, variable frost and a 4-knife frame system that can be rotated ±60°.

The zoom range of 6° to 56.2° allows for flexible beam adjustment, and you have to admit that it's quite large. Its aspect ratio is 10:1.

Fanless cooling system

Quiet operation is achieved through 100% convection cooling, eliminating any fan noise. As we know, this is especially important in theaters and studios, where even minimal noise can interfere with recordings or performances.

By the non-standard cooling solution, the device looks strongly "different". The use of multiple heat sinks at the rear of the head gives the impression of a physically quite "inflated rear".

Nevertheless, the whole thing managed to be enclosed in dimensions that are not intimidating. The head weighs about 25kg, and its dimensions are 400 x 246 x 616 mm.

Summary

Interestingly, after the parameters, it is so far the "weakest" head in the Silens series. I mean here, of course, the power of the LED motor. On the other hand, the whole thing is much smaller than its "predecessors". This may indicate a deliberate action - to complete the series of fanless devices with something from the idea of compactness.

A very cool presentation on its channel was provided by LTT. To which you are cordially invited!
